Pentax ES - 35mm SLR Camera

The Asahi Pentax ES is a 35mm single-lens reflex camera from the early 1970s, shown here fitted with a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 28mm f/3.5 wide-angle lens. It offers photographers an aperture-priority automatic exposure system in a solid, fully mechanical body that remains straightforward to use today.

The Collector's Notes

Produced by Asahi Optical Company in Japan between 1971 and 1973, the ES was one of the first Pentax SLRs to feature electronically controlled shutter speeds with aperture-priority automation. It sits in the line between the earlier Spotmatic models and the later K-series cameras, marking Pentax's move toward more advanced exposure control while retaining the reliable M42 screw-mount lens system.
